Personal Understanding and Acceptance
- Personal understanding is very important for all of us, however, it is particularly significant for autistic adults in today's society. Gaining a better undertsanding of self can be done as a stand-alone process or alongside medical professionals.
Sensory Processing Differences
- I have yet to find a person who is autistic and doesn't have sensory processing differences to those who are not autistic. Developing understanding of how people personally sense the world is essential to gaining an understanding of self, and, how each of us fit into working teams. Seamless understanding is the essence of success.
Environmental Processing over Social Processing
- There is a strong tendency, as a result of sensory processing differences, for autistic people to be more 'environmentally' attuned rather than 'socially' attuned i.e., more in tune with the physical environment rather than the social environment. While autistic people often see things in our physical environment that others cannot, others often see things in the social environment that autistic people cannot.
Understanding Social Processing
- Having a greater understanding of how others are likely to be interpreting the shared environment creates fewer questions and simplifies situations. Fewer problems to solve equates to lower stress levels.

The above are constant areas of development that we all go through. Development in these areas, however small, enables personal growth, greater independence and a greater self-esteem. A greater self-esteem then furthers the ability to develop within the above areas. In essence then, we work together to create a positive spiral of understanding, self-esteem and efficient working.
